ACORN is looking for a Communications Officer to build power to fight for social and economic change across England and Wales starting on Monday 14th July, 2025!
This role has a specific focus on organising with and increasing the representation of women members across our organisation. As such, it is a requirement of the position that applicants for this position are women.
About the job
The successful applicant will work as a key member of ACORN’s communications team, using a variety of communications tools to promote ACORN’s work and key campaign messages, to help win campaigns, and to build the power and influence of the union to deliver social change for the benefit of ACORN members and our communities
Your daily work will involve
- Work with other staff members and ACORN’s elected leadership to deliver a digital communications strategy that communicates ACORN’s vision as an organisation and that supports our organising on the ground
- Create compelling social media content, including videos, reels, infographics and written posts
- Identity and develop trends and concepts to build our social media presence and amplify member voices and experiences online
- Administer our social media pages and groups, press lists, photographic and film archives
- Respond to press requests, write comment and work with staff and members to source relevant case studies and support media appearances
- Documenting our members and actions through filming, photography and interviewing. This will require occasional travel
- Develop relationships with journalists to build our media profile

Qualifications
No formal qualifications are necessary! We’re primarily looking for women with a strong work ethic, a passion for fairness, equality and social/economic justice and the ability to communicate effective copy about the social and political environment in which ACORN operates.

This role is a 12 months fixed-term contract, with the view to be extended depending on funding.
💸Salary
£22,932pa, Real Living Wage, rising to £23,182pa after probation passed
If based in London, £25,207pa rising to £25,457pa after probation passed
🏖️Holiday allowance
28 days plus bank holidays
🔎Location
City with ACORN staffed office preferable (Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle) but potential for remote or hybrid working for the right candidate.
🕑Hours
35 hours a week
